AI search optimisation, without the hype.
What we actually do
Five things you can control.
Everything here is useful even if AI search changed tomorrow, because it also helps your normal Google rankings and your customers.
Make sure the bots can read you
Robots rules that allow the major AI and search crawlers, pages that render without relying on scripts, and a clean sitemap. We check the site’s robots file and what each crawler can actually see.
One consistent business identity
The same name, phone, address, services and areas on your site, your Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and the directories that matter. AI tools cross-check sources; contradictions make you look less certain.
Structured data that matches the page
LocalBusiness or Organization markup with your real details, services and areas, connected to your profiles. Machine-readable facts, not keyword stuffing.
Pages that answer real questions
Clear, direct answers near the top of the page to the questions customers really ask (price ranges, timeframes, what’s included, service areas), backed by your own experience and photos.
Mentions beyond your own site
Reviews on more than one platform, local directories, suppliers, associations and local press. AI tools trust what others say about you more than what you say about yourself.
Evidence from our clients
What answer-style content actually does.
Barossa 50’s Diner has a short page answering “what is a spider drink?”. In the last 28 days it appeared in Google 2,249 times at an average position of 6.6, and earned 5 clicks.
That is what answer engines do: they show the answer on the results page, so visibility doesn’t always become a visit. It still matters. The page makes the diner more relevant to food searches in its area, and it gives AI tools an accurate, citable source. But anyone promising floods of traffic from AI-style content is selling you something.
Across the sites JB Digital Barossa builds and manages, we rolled out the basics in August 2026: AI crawler access in robots files, an llms.txt summary, and cleaned-up LocalBusiness structured data. On one site that meant removing review markup that broke Google’s rules. It is unglamorous work, and it is the honest version of “AI SEO”.

Straight talk on AI SEO.
- That llms.txt, or any single file, makes ChatGPT recommend you.
- That we can guarantee a mention in AI Overviews or any assistant.
- That AI search replaces Google search for local services. For now, most local customers still search and call.
- That you need a separate “AI SEO” package on top of good SEO. It’s the same foundations.
Questions
AI search, answered.
What are GEO and AEO?
Generative engine optimisation (GEO) and answer engine optimisation (AEO) are names for making your business easy for AI tools and answer boxes to understand and cite. In practice most of the work overlaps with good SEO: accurate information, clear pages that answer real questions, and a consistent presence across the web.
Can you get my business recommended by ChatGPT?
No one can promise that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. AI answers vary by question, user and day. We improve the inputs those tools draw on and check how they describe you, but we don’t sell placements.
Does llms.txt make AI recommend you?
There is no evidence it does. llms.txt is a proposed convention for summarising a site for AI tools, and no major provider has confirmed using it for ranking or recommendations. We add one because it is cheap and harmless, and we say exactly that.
Why does Bing matter for AI search?
Several AI assistants with web search lean on search indexes other than Google’s, and Bing is a big one. Setting up Bing Webmaster Tools and Bing Places takes an hour and means those tools can see an up-to-date version of your site and business details.
How do you measure it?
Imperfectly, and we say so. The useful signals are referral visits from AI tools in your analytics, how the main assistants describe you when asked the same set of questions over time, and question-style searches in Search Console.
