Short answer: build pages only for the suburbs and towns you genuinely want work from, and make each one genuinely about that place: the jobs you do there, local conditions, how a job runs, nearby areas and real photos. Ten real pages beat a hundred copies with the name swapped, and the copies can drag the whole site down.
What Google says about doorway pages
Google’s spam policies describe doorway pages as pages created to rank for specific, similar searches that funnel people to the same place without offering anything distinct. Their own example is having many pages that each target a different city but are otherwise the same. Sites that rely on them can be ranked lower or dropped from results altogether.
So the question isn’t “are suburb pages allowed?” It’s “does this page give someone in that suburb something they wouldn’t get from the page next to it?”
What a good one looks like: Becks in Hallett Cove
Becks Bathrooms & Tiling’s Hallett Cove page isn’t the Morphett Vale page with the name changed. Its sections, as they appear on the live page today:
- Your local bathroom renovator in Hallett Cove
- Coastal homes, and where a bathroom fails first
- How a bathroom job runs in Hallett Cove
- Leaking-shower strip-back, waterproofing to AS 3740, niche tiling, large-format floors
- Bathroom renovations in Hallett Cove: common questions
- We also work nearby
That middle section is the giveaway. Something specific to coastal homes is useful to a Hallett Cove homeowner and impossible to fake across thirty suburbs. In the last 28 days that page appeared in Google 104 times.
One honest note: Search Console averages page one for “bathroom renovations hallett cove”, but a live check from neighbouring Morphett Vale on 5 October 2026 didn’t show the page in the top 18. A good suburb page is the start, not the finish. What did show up from the south was Becks’ Google profile:
A town page for a mobile trade: Iron Works in Murray Bridge
Mobile businesses have no shopfront in most of the places they work, so town pages do even more of the work. Iron Works Mobile Welding’s Murray Bridge page talks about harvester and machinery repairs, aluminium and river work, stock crates and irrigation: the jobs that actually come up in the Murraylands, not a generic list.
That page averaged position 6.6 in Search Console over the last 28 days. The Mount Barker page averaged 26.1 but brought in 12 clicks, and in a live check from Mount Barker on 5 October 2026 Iron Works was #3 in Google’s map box for “mobile welding mount barker”, with no Google reviews yet. Not every page wins at the same speed, and that’s normal.
Which suburbs deserve a page?
- Where your best jobs already come from. Check your last year of invoices.
- Where you want more work and can realistically get to.
- Where people actually search. Search Console shows which suburb searches you already appear for. Those are the easiest to improve.
For most local trades that’s somewhere between five and fifteen pages, not a hundred.
The checklist we write to
- A heading and title with the service and the place, written naturally.
- At least one section that could only be about this area: housing stock, soil, coast, rural properties, local rules or the typical jobs there.
- How a job runs in this area (travel, access, timing).
- The specific services you offer there, linked to the main service pages.
- Real photos from jobs in or near that suburb, if you have them.
- Questions locals actually ask, answered briefly.
- Nearby suburbs, linked to their own pages if they have one.
- Your phone number and quote form, same as every page.
What not to do
- Hundreds of pages generated from one template with the suburb swapped.
- A footer stuffed with fifty suburb links.
- Claiming an office in suburbs where you don’t have one.
- Thin pages with two sentences and a contact form.
How to see if they’re working
In Search Console, open Performance → Search results → Pages and filter for your suburb page URLs. Look at impressions and average position over a few months. If a page has been live for three months with almost no impressions, it probably isn’t different enough from your other pages, or the area simply doesn’t search much.
