SEO for tradies in Adelaide: what brings the calls, from seven SA trades we look after.

This is built from seven trade businesses we look after across Adelaide, the Hills and the Barossa: what got them found, what still holds them back, and what it costs. Every ranking is dated and searched from a real town.

Key takeaways

  • For most trade searches the map box decides it, and the map rewards distance, a complete Business Profile and reviews.
  • Reviews are the biggest gap we see: our roofer had 2 against 92 to 370 for the map leaders, and our paver 5 against 13 to 82.
  • Count the calls. 18 of Iron Works’ 23 website enquiries in October 2026 were taps to call or email, not forms.
  • Our Local plan is $349 a month, month to month. Growth ($599) adds Google Ads, links and more pages.

Short answer: for a tradie, SEO is mostly about the map. Get your Google Business Profile complete and accurate, build up reviews, give every job its own page on your website, name the towns you actually work in so Google can’t mix them up, and track every call, not just forms. Our SEO for tradies in Adelaide starts at $349 a month. It works, but it doesn’t work overnight, and the businesses with the most reviews usually stay ahead until you close the gap.

Seven trades, where they stand

These are trade businesses our team looks after. Each result was a live Google check on a mobile, logged out, searched from the town shown. None of them are searches for the business’s own name.

A1 Roofing“roofer tea tree gully”3rd in Google’s web resultsFrom Tea Tree Gully, 3 Nov 2026
Spriggs & Co“bathroom renovations blackwood”3rd in Google’s web resultsFrom Blackwood, 3 Nov 2026

That’s the good news. The same checks also showed where each one is stuck, and that’s where the useful lessons are.

1. The map decides most trade searches

Search “plumber” or “welder” on a phone and the first thing you see is three businesses on a map. Google ranks those on how close the business is to the person searching, how well its profile matches the search, and how well known it is, which mostly means reviews.

Distance is the one you can’t change, and it shows. Piper Plumbing & Gas is based in Williamstown. On 3 Nov 2026 it was #1 in Google’s local results for “plumber” from Williamstown and Nuriootpa, 3rd from Tanunda, and not in the top 20 from Gawler. Iron Works was #1 for “welder” from Mount Pleasant, its home town, but outside the top 20 from Tanunda. So the job is to be the clear choice where you are, then work outwards.

What you can change is the Business Profile: the right primary category, every service listed with a description, the right service area, real job photos and a post each month. That’s the first thing our Business Profile work fixes.

2. Reviews are the biggest gap

When a client isn’t in the map box, it’s usually reviews. These were the counts on the day we checked:

  • A1 Roofing had almost no Google reviews. The roofers in its map box had 92 to 370.
  • May Paving had 5. The paving contractors above it on Maps had 13 to 82.
  • Spriggs & Co had 5. Most of the bathroom renovators above it had 40 to 120.

There’s no shortcut. Ask every happy customer, the day the job is finished, with a direct link. Our plans include a review-request kit with the link, the wording and a QR code for the van or the invoice. Never buy reviews or offer something for them; Google removes them and can suspend the profile.

3. One page per job, then the towns you really work in

A tradie’s website often has one “Services” page listing everything. Google can’t rank that one page for blocked drains, hot water and gas fitting all at once. Piper’s site has a page for each of its nine services; Iron Works has separate pages for mobile welding, fabrication, sheds and more.

Town pages come second, and only for places you genuinely cover. They work when they say something real about the area, and Google still decides which page to show. For “paving gawler” on 3 Nov 2026, Google showed May Paving’s homepage 4th and its Gawler page 17th. Our guide to suburb pages for tradies goes through what makes one worth building.

4. Say exactly where you are

Some SA town names exist in other states. When we searched “welder mount pleasant” on 3 Nov 2026, Google filled the web results with welders in Mount Pleasant in Western Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. AI tools did the same with Williamstown, mixing the Barossa town with the Melbourne suburb. The fix is simple: write “Mount Pleasant SA 5235” or “Williamstown SA” on your pages and profile, not just the town name.

5. Get onto the directories that rank

For a lot of trade searches, page one is half directories. When we checked A1 Roofing’s suburb searches, hipages was on page one for 5 of the 10, and Yellow Pages for 3. For “fencing contractor barossa”, Yellow Pages, Barossa Link and hipages all sat above most of the fencers. Being listed on the ones that rank for your trade puts you on page one twice, and every listing with the same name, address and phone number helps the map too.

6. Count the calls, not just the forms

Tradies get rung. In October 2026 Iron Works had 23 enquiries through its website: 5 quote forms, and 18 people who tapped to call or email from the site. If you only counted forms, you’d think the site brought in five jobs. Our plans set up Google Analytics to count every tap to call or email, and the monthly report shows them.

What SEO for a trade costs with us

We publish our prices. Local is $349 a month and suits most single-location trades: the Business Profile and Maps work, your details the same everywhere, call and form tracking, up to 1 new page or post and 1–2 pages improved each month, and a monthly report. Growth, at $599, adds Google Ads (20% of the fee, about $120 a month, goes into ads we run), link building, two new pages a month and competitor tracking. Every plan is month to month with 30 days’ notice. The $349 plan in detail shows what you get and what you don’t.

What this doesn’t show

  • These are our best checks, not every search. Spriggs & Co gets plenty of Google impressions but was on page two or lower for most of its searches in October 2026. A1 Roofing’s other roofing searches sit on pages three to eight. The full picture, misses included, is on each case study.
  • Rankings move. Insect Invasion was 6th in Google’s local results from Nuriootpa on 31 Oct 2026 and 10th three days later, after new pest control listings appeared. We date every check for that reason.
  • Several of these started with a new website from JB Digital Barossa, the same team. The SEO and the build were one job.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SEO for a tradie cost in Adelaide?

Our plans are Local $349, Growth $599 and Serious $1,099 a month, month to month, with 30 days’ notice to cancel. Most single-location trades start on Local. Growth adds Google Ads (20% of the fee goes into ads), link building and two new pages a month. The pricing page lists everything.

How long does SEO take for a tradie?

Maps and suburb searches usually move first. Iron Works went from page three to an average of 5.1 for “mobile welding adelaide” over about four months (13 Jun – 10 Jul vs 1 – 30 Oct 2026). Busy Adelaide-wide searches take longer, and nobody can promise a date.

Do I need a website, or is a Google Business Profile enough?

A Profile can get the phone ringing on its own, but the website is what Google reads to understand every job you do and every area you cover. A1 Roofing had no website in August 2026 and brought in 26 enquiries and calls through its new one in under two months.

Should I build a page for every suburb?

Not every suburb. A page for each job first, then pages for the towns you really work in, each with something specific to that area. Our guide to suburb pages for tradies covers when they work and when Google treats them as filler.

Can you get me to number one?

Nobody can promise that. What we can show is what has happened for trades we look after, dated and searched from a real town, which is what this post does.
